Step Into the Mythical World of Ancient Crete

Book your Knossos Palace Tour with Platanias Taxi Tours and embark on a journey through Europe’s oldest city. Located near Heraklion, the Palace of Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and was once the center of the Minoan civilization, home to legends like King Minos, the Minotaur, and the Labyrinth.

The site was identified through ancient Greek texts and Roman coins bearing images of the Minotaur and inscriptions referencing Knossos. Built on Kephala Hill, the palace stands atop the ruins of a Neolithic settlement, showcasing layers of human history dating back thousands of years.

The Palace of Knossos – A Glimpse into the Past

Discovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos, and later extensively excavated by Sir Arthur Evans starting in 1900, the palace complex revealed incredible findings such as the Linear A and Linear B scripts, intricate frescoes, and the famous Throne Room.

Evans coined the term Minoan civilization to describe the advanced society that once thrived here. His restoration efforts have brought life to parts of the site, making it easier for visitors to imagine the grandeur of this ancient world.
