Discover Balos Lagoon & Gramvousa Island

Book your tour to Balos Beach and experience one of Crete’s most iconic and breathtaking destinations. Located 56 km northwest of Chania and 17 km from Kissamos, Balos Lagoon lies between Cape Gramvousa and Cape Tigani, beneath the Platiskinos mountain range.

Balos is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, wild natural beauty, and exotic scenery — making it one of the most photographed spots in Greece. Even Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited it by private yacht!

The lagoon features shallow, warm waters ideal for families with children, while further out, deeper waters offer excellent snorkeling opportunities. The beach’s unique pinkish sand comes from crushed shells, adding to its charm.

Balos and its surrounding ecosystem are protected under the Natura 2000 program due to its rare flora and fauna. You may spot Eleonora’s falcons, shags, monk seals, or even a loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) if you’re lucky.

For a quieter experience, visit early in the morning before the ferries arrive, especially in July and August when crowds are larger.

Gramvousa – The Island of Pirates

Just before Balos, you’ll explore the island of Gramvousa, steeped in legend and history. Its remote beach is home to a shipwreck and the impressive Venetian castle built in 1579, perched 137 meters above sea level on a steep cliff.

The castle offers panoramic views and is linked to pirate legends and hidden treasures. It’s accessible by a 20-minute hike and is well worth the effort.

The tour concludes with your driver returning to pick you up from the same drop-off location, at the agreed time.
