Discover the Beauty of Southern Crete with the Imbros Gorge Tour
Join us on the Imbros Gorge Tour and explore one of the most beautiful and accessible gorges in Crete. Located in the Sfakia region, Imbros Gorge is the second most popular hiking gorge on the island after Samaria, and for good reason.
Why Choose Imbros Gorge?
Easier and shorter than Samaria Gorge:
Walking distance: approximately 8 km
Total descent: around 600 meters
Average walking time: about 2.5 hours
The trail is generally easier to walk, although some sections have larger stones, so proper hiking shoes are recommended.
The walk is suitable even for families with children, making it a great outdoor option for all ages.
The gorge can be completed in half a day, allowing time for other activities.
Unlike Samaria Gorge, no ferry is needed for return transport. The road access is straightforward and convenient.
What to Expect
The hike begins just below the village of Imbros, where you’ll find a few traditional cafés and tavernas, as well as clearly marked paths to the entrance of the gorge. From there, the descent begins.
Although smaller in scale than Samaria, Imbros Gorge features stunning narrow passages, impressive cliff formations, and a unique chance to walk closely alongside the canyon walls. This proximity offers excellent opportunities to observe local plants and wildflowers, especially vibrant in the spring season.
The gorge is shaded for most of the walk, thanks to its narrow shape and abundant tree cover, which provides a comfortable hiking experience even on warmer days. While a small river may run through the gorge in winter, it typically dries up by summer—so be sure to bring enough water.
